Ruto to bandits: We will deal with you ruthlessly

In a bid to tackle runaway insecurity in Kenya’s NorthRift region, President William Ruto has given the military and the police the greenlight to weed out bandits that have been killing residents and making away with thousands of livestock.

A dusk-to-dawn curfew has already been declared to firm up the operation to mop up illegal firearms in parts of Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Laikipia, and Samburu counties which are reeling from rampant cases of banditry at the moment.

According to the ministry of Interior, the bandits have in the last six months killed 100 civilians and 16 police officers. What’s more, the gangs have burnt down schools, police vehicles, and other infrastructure while forcing hundreds of people to flee their homes.
