Sh5 million sponsorship for Nairobi City Marathon
Lender KCB has will channel Kes5 million into the Nairobi City Marathon that will be held on July 2nd, 2023, at the Nairobi ExpressWay. The 2nd edition of the City Marathon will see athletes compete in the 42km full marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km and 6km races and will be battling for cash prizes in each of the categories.
The 42km full marathon winners in both the male and female categories will receive Kes3.5 million, while the first runners up will receive Kes2.2 million. The second-place finishers will receive Kes1.5 million.
NBK Managing Director George Odhiambo said: “We are thrilled to participate as one of the key financial partners for the Nairobi City Marathon. This opportunity allows us to actively contribute towards the long-term sustainability of sports in our country,” he spoke during the cheque handover event in Nairobi.
Brimin Kipkorir, who won the 42-kilometer full marathon last year, will be eager to defend his title in the 2023 competition, which is predicted to draw over 5,000 competitors from Kenya and other countries.

The Nairobi City Marathon, which has been dubbed the best marathon on the continent, will also award victors in the 21-kilometer race Kes150 000 in both the men’s and women’s categories, while runners-up and second runners-up will earn Kes80 000 and Kes50 000, respectively.
Athletics Kenya president Jackson Tuwei said: “Throughout the years, the sports sector in Kenya has witnessed remarkable progress and advancement, serving as a vital catalyst for promoting well-being, nurturing talent, and fostering unity among communities nationwide. Kenya has gained worldwide acclaim for its exceptional performance in long-distance running, producing a multitude of world-class athletes.”
Registration is still ongoing as participants race to have their names on the list as the marathon edges closer.
