Solar kit turns premium content signal on in Kenya’s off-grid homes

It is Champions League night on Wednesday, March 8, 2017.

Yes, you can hear the theme song “We are the champions” renting the air in front of your TV or local as Barcelona stars, four-nil down from the first leg against French champions, PSG, pace up and down Camp Nou for what looks like mission impossible – securing a spot in the contest’s quarter final duel.

A lot of pundits had written Barcelona off. But with inspiration from their coach Luis Enrique and unyielding push from the fans, the fuse was lit.

Nail biting moments and will power ensued on the pitch until 95th minute when Barcelona’s goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, slid into the Paris Saint-Germain penalty box, may be to perform a ‘miracle’.

Man of the match, Neymar, fired a superb curve, reaching substitute Sergi Roberto, who clipped it just in time into the goal, taking Barcelona through at 4-3 on aggregate and making history in the game. It was over.

Camp Nou — the biggest football stadium in Europe — in collective hysteria erupted to deafening chants of “Yes, We Can,” as PSG licked its wounds.

Football, bloody hell? These are the magical moments that football fans in Kenya and around the world live for when their favorite teams do something utterly unbelievable.

This exhilarating fun, whether in your living room or at your local, might not be possible if you lack electricity connection in your house.

The agony might, however, be a thing of the past just like the 2017 Barcalena-PSG battle at Camp Nou as Azuri Technologies, the first company to unveil pay-as-you-go solar TV in Kenya, has signed a deal with MultiChoice to bring DStv content to off-grid customers in the country.

The partnership bundles Azuri’s TV400 product, a 32” solar-powered TV and household solar energy kit, with a DStv decoder, giving customers a plug-and-play system that accesses the latest in the world of entertainment, local and international news, classic documentaries and a lot of educational content.

The stand-alone system, which comes with 80 watts’ capacity solar panel, a 160Wh battery, the company says customers will power their television sets for over 10 years without the need of servicing the system.
