Ian Duncan and ‘The Flying Sausage’ makes a comeback for 2023 Safari Rally

Farmers Choice has announced it is backing Kenyan rally legend Ian Duncan in the upcoming 2023 East African Safari Classic Rally. The company has pledged its support for Ian Duncan’s involvement in the 11th edition of the Safari Classic Rally, scheduled from December 9th to 18th, 2023. This marks a nostalgic moment as they reflect on 30 years since their last triumphant collaboration when Ian, alongside the iconic Flying Sausage, etched history by winning the WRC East African Safari Rally in 1994.

“Ian’s unwavering focus and commitment mirror what we stand for as a homegrown Kenyan brand and we are proud to bring back the “Flying Sausage” this year. Our partnership extends beyond the rally and we are honoured to be part of his endeavours, we hope it drives a new generation to pursue motorsport activities inspired by his career,” said Farmers Choice CEO, Jim Taylor.

The Flying Sausage

In 1994, Farmers Choice first started sponsorship of Ian Duncan, who showcased Kenya under the firm’s banner while driving a Toyota Celica GT4 affectionately named the “Flying Sausage”.

Ian’s triumph marked the inception of his international success, and Farmer’s Choice celebrated his victory by launching “Safari Sausages” featuring distinctive branded packaging in his honour.

“We’re optimistic about a great performance and invite all motorsport enthusiasts to come out to support the drivers, enjoy the rally and continue to grow the development of the motorsport community as part of our national heritage,” said Ian.

He will be navigated by Jaspal Matharu, and will take on 62 other drivers, covering over 4000km across the rally route, marking the largest number of driver entries in the history of the Rally.
