Chapa Dimba Nairobi finals to feature AI-powered tools

Safaricom has kicked off the Nairobi Regional Finals of the Chapa Dimba tournament. The contest will be accompanied by a series of community outreach initiatives aimed at positively impacting the lives of locals in the region.

These initiatives will culminate in an exciting football event scheduled for this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, at Dandora Stadium in Nairobi County.

The girls’ teams scheduled to play include Masericordiae Queens (Makadara), Page Vision Ladies (Mathare Valley), Dagoretti Mixed girls, and Beijing Raiders (Mathare Valley), while the boys’ teams are Young Kings (Dandora), Lucky Summer Sports Club (Lucky Summer), Macmillan FC (Landimawe), and Dagoretti Lions (Dagrotti).

As part of the community engagement efforts, Safaricom, in collaboration with insurer Britam, will provide free Digital and Financial Literacy training at Dandora Social Hall tomorrow, Thursday, March 14th.

This training is designed for Safaricom customers in the region, including Boda Boda riders, vendors, small business operators, and shopkeepers. The aim is to impart knowledge that encourages a culture of saving and enhances preparedness for credit and investment opportunities.

Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC, underscored the importance of empowering the community through knowledge and highlighted the significance of these individuals in sustaining local economies and contributing to the growth and development of the entire nation.

Coaches clinic

“Empowering our community through knowledge is a cornerstone of progress. Hence, as we head to the regional finals in Nairobi, we have organized free Digital and Financial Literacy training for our customers geared towards providing tips that can inculcate a saving culture.

“These individuals are the heartbeat of our communities, the engines that drive commerce, and the backbone of our nation’s prosperity. Their tireless efforts, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit not only sustain local economies but also fuel the growth and development of our entire country,” Mr Ndegwa explained.

In addition to the financial literacy training, there will be a players and coaches’ clinic providing valuable lessons in skill development, social values, teamwork, and leadership.

Coaches will gain insights into effective training methods, tactical approaches, and ways to motivate and communicate with players. The clinic will also include training on the use of Safaricom’s newly introduced GPS Sports Vests, AI-powered tools designed to enhance players’ performance and create scouting opportunities.

These vests capture data about players, such as total distance, speed, power plays, and power scores, allowing players to understand their strengths and weaknesses for improvement.

The community engagement initiatives will lead up to the Safaricom Chapa Dimba regional final matches at Dandora Stadium, featuring eight teams (four boys’ and four girls’ teams). Notable teams include Masericordiae Queens and Page Vision Ladies for the girls, and Young Kings and Lucky Summer Sports Club for the boys, among others.

Martin Sherehe, Head of Chapa Dimba in Nairobi, revealed that the winners will receive a cash prize of Kes250,000, runners-up Kes 150,000, and the best individual player will be awarded Kes30,000.

Moreover, the best player will also be taken for TVET training in any field of choice, as part of Safaricom’s vision to empower the youth with other skills while nurturing their talents.
