Kiambu benefits from Sh3.6 million maternity services investment
Safaricom Foundation in collaboration with Kiambu County has commissioned an outpatient wing for maternity services at Rironi Health Centre that was renovated at a cost of Kes3.6 million.
The initiative is part of the Foundation’s program to increase access to quality maternal and child health services in the country.
The facility which is yet to be equipped by the Kiambu County Government is expected to serve more than 150 patients per day.
“We are proud of this partnership, we look forward to many more and to ensure healthy mother and child relationships and ultimately contribute to the wealth of Kiambu County,” said Safaricom Foundation trustee, Dr Githinji Gitahi.
Dr Gitahi added that the Foundation will continue exploring partnerships with other county governments across the country.

Kiambu Governor Dr James Nyoro expressed gratitude to the Foundation saying the healthcare centre will benefit the community and especially mothers who will easily access maternity services.
“We are very proud of the partnership in reaching out to this community by converting what was merely a dispensary to a health center,” he said.
In 2018, Safaricom Foundation launched its Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Program and has invested in several counties especially in areas where there is the highest need.
According to 2018 statistics, 362 out of 100,000 pregnant mothers lost their lives while 31 infants out of 1,000 live births died, a situation which prompted Safaricom Foundation to launch Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Program.
