Covid-19: 741 test positive, positivity rate at 10.7 per cent
A total of 741 people have tested positive for COVID-19 virus in Kenya in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s positivity rate to 10.7 per cent.
The total confirmed infections now stand at 181,239 with the cumulative tests so far conducted at 1,926,973.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 99 patients have recovered from the virus; 52 from the home based and isolation care program while 47 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide.
Mr Kagwe, however, noted that 24 patients succumbed to the virus, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility audit records on diverse dates between March and June. The cumulative fatalities now stand at 3,538.

Nairobi county recorder the highest number of cases with 146, followed by Busia with 92, Siaya 76, Kisumu 51, Mombasa 47, Kericho 39, Kitui 37, Kisii 35, Uasin Gishu 27, Kakamega 26, Nyamira 21, Kilifi 17, Vihiga 16, Nandi 16, Homa Bay 14, Nakuru 13, Kiambu 10, Meru 10, Bungoma 9, Kajiado 5, Kirinyaga 4, Nyeri 4, Tana River 4, Machakos 3, Murang’a 3, Baringo 3, Barnett Garissa, Makueni, Migori and Nyandarua 2 cases each. West Pokot, Isiolo, and Elgeyo Marakwet recorded a case each.
“A total of 1,059 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,599 patients are under Home Based Isolation and Care program. 100 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 36 of whom are on ventilator support and 51 on supplemental oxygen. 13 patients are under observation,” he said.
“Another 140 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 131 of them in general wards and 9 in High Dependency Units (HDU).”
Health CS added that a total of 1,220,151 vaccines have so far been administered across the country; out of which the first doses are 998,073 and the second 222,442.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 22.3 per cent with the majority being males at 56 percent and females at 44 percent.
The most vaccinated persons are the health workers at 56,640, followed by those of ages 58 years and above at 61,971, other groups of people at 59,897, teachers at 26,504 and security officers at 16,430.
The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is so far at 0.86 per cent.
