An open-air showcase of Ethiopian fashion

The Africa Sourcing and Fashion Week (ASFW), held from 3-6 November in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aimed to engage key stakeholders in the textile and apparel sector, focusing on issues related to African fashion.

The well-attended event featured exhibitors from around the globe in both the textile and leather industries, as Africa showcased its finest fashion. Embracing African traditions, the event included an open-air fashion show, transforming the grounds of the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel into a literal runway.

In a manner reminiscent of an African open-air market where goods are displayed openly for everyone to see, models at the Africa Sourcing and Fashion Week flaunted various designer outfits by catwalking openly from lounge to lounge at the host hotel, through parking lots, and amidst exhibition stalls.

Judging by the vibrancy, rich colors, and impeccable styles showcased at the event, it’s evident that the world is unprepared for the rise of African fashion, which is gaining momentum as the continent rediscovers its unique identity.
