New investment initiative targets Kenyans abroad

The government plans to create Diaspora Fund to help Kenyans living and working abroad save back home. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has assured Kenyans living and working in diaspora that their money will be safe.

“Through the State Department of Diaspora, we want a conversation of how the government can guarantee investments back home for people in the diaspora. We are all aware most of you have been conned money by friends and relatives. We want to create a Diaspora Fund, similar to Treasury Bonds and Bills, where you can invest back home and earn good interest,” said the Deputy President.

Diaspora remittances continue to be Kenya’s primary forex earner surpassing exports of tea, coffee and horticulture.
