Mandera loses Kes280 mn to ghost workers and camel herders

Office of the controller of budget estimates Mandera county lost paid Kes280 million to ghost workers and camel herders.

The country’s payroll is operated manually opening up the county to loss of funds putting Mandera County on the spotlight for the third year in a row.

The report by the Office of the Controller of Budget shows Mohamed Adan Khalif`s administration spent KES 3.99 billion on employees which equals 31.8% of the revenue for the financial year 2022/2023 of KES 12.53 billion.

This expenditure represented an increase from KES3.3 billion that was previously reported in the financial year 2021/2022.
