Kenya records 21 Covid deaths, positivity rate at 11 per cent
About 200 people in Kenya have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 1,799 tested in the last 24-hours. This now brings the country’s positivity rate to about 11 per cent.
The youngest case is a nine-year-old child while the oldest is a 90-year-old person.
The total positive cases recorded now stand at 156,981, with the cumulative tests conducted so far at 1,646,988.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 26, by the Ministry of Health, 21 deaths have been registered in the last 24 hours; one having occurred in the last 24 hours and 20 on diverse dates within the last one month. The cumulative fatalities now stand at 2,643.

At the same time, a total of 248 patients have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, 218 from home based care and isolation while 30 are from health facilities.
The total recoveries now stand at 106,836.
Another 1,147 patients are currently admitted to health facilities across the country.
On vaccination, as of April 26, a total of 826,617 Kenyans have received their first jab with Nairobi County leading with the highest number of vaccine recipients at 256,282 followed by Nakuru 54,022, and Kiambu at 44,876.
Tana River, Lamu, and Marsabit recorded the lowest numbers of vaccinations at 732, 592, and 546 respectively.
Meanwhile, a special audit by the Auditor General’s office shows that counties cannot account for KES7.7 billion of Covid-19 funds.
The report revealed malpractices that included breach of procurement laws, award of contracts to unqualified bidders, the purchase of personal protective equipment from private suppliers instead of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa).
Auditor General Nancy Gathungu has requested the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to investigate the matter.
