Market turnover shrinks 22 per cent on Thursday as Safaricom dominates days trading

Turnover declined on Thursday to Sh497million from the previous sessions Sh638million as the number of shares traded stood at 15.2million shares against 20million shares posted yesterday.
The NSE 20 Share Index was up 15.22 points to stand at 3752.48. All Share Index (NASI) inched up 0.97 points to settle at 181.57. On its part, the NSE 25 Share Index added 22.32 points to stand at 4535.27.
Banking
The Banking Sector traded shares worth Sh105million and accounted for 21 percent of the day’s traded value. Equity Group Holdings actively moved 1.1million shares valued at Sh48million at between Sh43.00 and Sh43.75. Barclays Bank shares climbed by 1.41 percent to Sh10.75 with shares worth Sh25.7million transacted. KCB Group was up twenty-five cents to Sh45.5. The lender moved 257,000 shares worth Sh11.7million.
Construction & Allied
The Construction & Allied Sector had shares worth Sh32.7million transacted and represented 6.58 percent of the day’s traded value. Bamburi Cement closed 1.15 percent higher to Sh175 moving 179,000 shares valued at Sh31million.
Energy & Petroleum
The Energy & Petroleum Sector had shares worth Sh11.7million transacted and represented
2.37 percent of the day’s traded value. Power generator KenGen traded 531,000 shares valued at Sh.4.4million at between Sh8.30 and Sh8.60. Oil marketer KenolKobil was unchanged at Sh14.80 moved 266,000 shares valued at Sh3.9million.
Investment
The Investment Sector had shares worth Sh5.5million transacted and represented 1.12 percent of the day’s traded value. Centum shares slipped by 0.54 percent to Sh45.75 moving 112,000 shares valued at Sh5million.
Investment Services
The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) moved 1million shares valued at Sh21M at between Sh20.25 and Sh20.75.
Manufacturing & Allied
The Manufacturing & Allied Sector had shares worth Sh117million transacted and represented 23.65 percent of the day’s traded value. East African Breweries had 464,000 shares valued at Sh116milion transacted at between Sh250 and Sh252.
Telecommunication
Safaricom was the day’s biggest mover with 6million shares valued at Sh183M changing hands at between Sh29.50 and Sh30. This represented 36.88 percent of the day’s traded value.
Bonds
The Bond Market recorded improved activity with bonds worth Sh3.9billion transacted compared to Sh2billion posted the previous session.
