WHO cushions five counties with medical supplies worth Sh10M
The World Health Organization (WHO) has dispatched 10 tonnes of emergency medical supplies and commodities valued at KES9.7 million to firm up their response to diseases ahead of the short rains season.
These supplies will be benefiting five counties, including Kilifi, Homa Bay, Mandera, Turkana, and Kajiado to boost their potential to manage health crises triggered by the upcoming short rains.
According to WHO, the supplies are expected to serve 164,600 people in areas prone to outbreaks of waterborne diseases.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an alert on short rains that are likely to begin between the third and fourth weeks of October in Central Kenya counties and Nairobi and go on up to December.
Consequently, water levels in the Rift Valley lakes are expected to remain high, potentially causing flooding in surrounding areas.
Kenya has been on the receiving end of floods from the heavy rains, associated with the El Nino phenomenon that have plagued the country leading to casualties and destruction of property such as roads and buildings.
Earlier this year, heavy rains and floods ravaged parts of Central, Coastal, Southeastern, Northwestern, Western, and Northeastern Kenya resulting in the deaths of at least 174 people.
