Hollywood queen Lupita picked narrator for Emmy-nominated series ‘Serengeti II’
Many Hollywood tales have been told of Africa but none like this one, this is our story.
Kenyan Hollywood queen Lupita Nyong’o has landed the deal of narrator in the second season of the Emmy-nominated series, Serengeti II, that is set to air across Discovery platforms later this year.
Lupita will be working with producers Simon Fuller and John Downer, the creative duo that she operated with in the first series two years ago.
In 2019, the Academy Awards-winning actress narrated the six-part Serengeti series, telling various stories of how different animals survive each day in Africa’s wild plains and Savanna.
For Lupita, her upbringing in Kenya, with a vibrant natural world “in our backyard,” taught her a lot, she said after inking the deal to narrate the six-part Discovery Channel documentary, Serengeti.
The passionate animal rights campaigner, who was honored in 2019 by the global environmental organization, WildAid, for her work in protecting endangered elephants in Africa, says one can draw valuable lessons by simply “observing and listening” to nature.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the second season will continue telling “heartwarming stories” of African wildlife such as lions, zebras, baboons and cheetahs over the span of a year, “showcasing the dramatic moments that make each day of survival on the Serengeti a feat.”
The series is set to take viewers deep into the plains of Tanzania to catch up with the wild animals featured in season one.
The 2019 edition of Serengeti series became a hit, topping the ratings on nature documentary among adults in the US and Canada while also bagging two Emmy nominations including one for Lupita as the best narrator and another for cinematography, The Hollywood Reporter quotes.
“It is a thrill to share with the world the lives of these incredible creatures and even more rewarding to present them to audiences around the globe,” said producer John Downer speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.
