English Premier League Gameweek Preview

The English Premier League kicked off yesterday at 10.00 pm East African Time. The kickoff was between Manchester United vs. Leicester City. All twenty teams will play over the weekend, and the following are the four things to look out for.

  • How good are Leicester City’s signings?

While everyone is keen to see how well Manchester United will do having undergone an underwhelming transfer window, Leicester City has done its signings relatively low key manner. The club brought in James Maddison, Jonny Evans, Rachid Ghezzal and Ricardo Pereira, players who will make their debut at Old Trafford. It will be intriguing to see how they perform against Manchester United, who might start without star striker Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba. A surprise could be on the cards.

  • How will Arsenal play against the champions?

Arsenal field their strongest first 11. Man City will look to ease the players who were involved up to the latter stages such as Kevin De Bruyne, Kompany, and Gabriel Jesus, and thus give Arsenal a glimmer of hope. It will be an intriguing contest.

  • Just how will Wolves set up?

Wolves have signed no less than ten players during this transfer window, and being a promoted side is definitely a completely unknown quantity. It is difficult to predict what kind of formation the team will set up, and who starts and who is on the bench. They will face an Everton side that has a new manager and a host of new signings, most eye-catching of all being the 40 million pound man Richarlison. This could be a very entertaining match between two sides who will attack. The lack of cohesion because of so many signings may lead to defensive errors and a goal-filled contest.

  • How much has Liverpool improved?

Liverpool has bought very shrewdly this offseason, with goalkeeper Alisson Becker being a clear upgrade on Karius and Mignolet. Add signings such as Shaqiri, Fabinho, and Naby Keita, and Liverpool will expect to finish at least second this season. They start against west ham who has also bought over ten signings. Anything other than a Liverpool win will be a big shock, but I will be keen to see how they play against a West Ham side that looks very good going forward.
