Kenyan government ‘deports’ Miguna as Raila men pay the price of oath
The Kenyan government has deported Miguna Miguna, a self appointed General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the ongoing crackdown of opposition leaders.
The deportation follows the controversial swearing in of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the people’s president two weeks ago.
Interior ministry spokesperson Mwenda Njoka said that Miguna denounced his Kenyan citizenship years back and acquired Canadian citizenship.
Mwenda said on Tweeter that the vocal opposition member “never bothered to reclaim Kenyan citizenship in the legally prescribed manner.
“Neither did he disclose that he had another country’s citizenship despite being a lawyer who should have known better,” Njoka said after it became clear that Miguna was being held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ahead of his planned deportation to Canada.
This becomes the latest twist in the Miguna saga after the courtroom cat and mouse game that saw the Inspector General of Police ordered to present Miguna in person in court.
It is ironical that Miguna, who was born in Kisumu, was allowed to run for the position of the Governor for Nairobi county, only for the Kenyan government to turn around and say he is not a Kenyan.
