USA vs Iran and other captivating pairings in 2022 World Cup
Soccer fans in Kenya and across the world can look up to some tasty pairings in the 2022 World Cup following the recent group draw of the international showpiece.
The first match of the 2022 World Cup will see host Qatar take on Ecuador at the Al Bayt Stadium, a retractable roof football stadium in Al Khor city, about 50 kilometers north of Doha.

Here are some of the interesting pairings that sports lovers can expect: –
Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, and the Netherlands. Here, English Premier League club, Liverpool, teammates Sadio Mane will go up against Virgil Van Dijk of the Netherland. Mane led Senegal to lift the Africa Cup of Nations recently.
Group B: England, Iran, USA, European Playoff Winner (either Wales, Ukraine, or Scotland) – What a pairing? Iran and the US have had no formal diplomatic ties since April 7, 1980. Later this year, however, USA and Iran soccer internationals will face off as England also gets a chance to settle scores with the Americans.
Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland. In the history of football, Argentina and Polland have only met twice in the World Cup before and their last duel in 1978 saw Argentina proceed to lift its maiden cup. Can Messi, who led his teammates in winning Copa America, go for glory once more?
Group D: France, Inter-Continental Playoff 1 winner, Denmark, Tunisia. 2018 World Cup Champion, France, appears drawn into a relatively easy group that guarantees them progress into the next level.
Group E: Spain, Inter-Continental Playoff 2 winner (Costa Rica or New Zealand), Germany, Japan. Interestingly, this group has five World Cup titles between them, Spain and Germany.
Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia. North American team Canada remains a dark horse in this group as it looks to shake off the jinx and go past the group stage to better its history in the tournament.
Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon. In 2021, Brazil lost the battle for Copa America to neighbors Argentina and will look to win an international trophy sooner than later with star striker Neymar leading their attack line.
Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, South Korea. You can bet your life that some old rivalries will be repeated here! As fate would have it, Uruguay, which eliminated Portugal in 2018 World Cup in Russia and Ghana earlier in South Africa 2010, will face both early on in the tournament’s group matches.
Overall, there are 32 teams at the World Cup drawn into eight groups of four.
