Over 137,000 students choose to pursue TVET courses
A total of 137,072 students who sat for the 2020 Form Four exam will pursue Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses even as 128,073 join universities to pursue degree programmes.
Speaking during the release of the 2021-2022 University and Colleges Placement report today, Education CS Prof George Magoha said that over 134,000 students who applied for courses of their choice and were placed.
However, the CS noted that over 7,000 students did not apply to join either universities, colleges, or TVET schools.
“As far as placement is concerned, a sizeable number slightly over 7000 did not apply and I have accordingly been advised that if they did not apply, we have no business placing them because in the first place, we revised three times,” the CS said.

Prof Magoha said there was an increase in TVET applications and admissions this year, urging more learners to embrace technical courses so as to learn and improve on new skills
“This years’ placement to TVET institutions represented a 54 per cent increase from 2019. However, TVET enrolment still remains low despite the government’s efforts,” said Prof Magoha.
He added that the government has built and equipped TVET institutions in counties to propel the country towards achieving 100 per cent transition to tertiary education by enhancing easy access to quality technical training.
A student can check their placement status by sending an SMS with their index number to 20842. The results will also be posted on the student’s portal.
