Kenya’s positivity rate down to 6.9 per cent as 204 test positive

Kenya has reported 204 new Covid-19 cases after testing a sample size of 2,971, posting a positivity rate of 6.9 per cent.

From these cases, the youngest was a two-month-old infant while the oldest 89 years old.

This total number of positive cases now stands at 182,597, while the cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,943,037.

In terms of recovery, 44 patients have recovered from the virus, where 33 were from home based and isolation care while 11 from various health facilities.

This now brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 124,436, with 89,990 from home-based and isolation care and 34,446 from various health facilities.

At the same time, the ministry of health announced that 21 patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, all of them being late deaths reports arising after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in the months of May and June.

This now brings the total number of fatalities to 3,595.

A total of 1,051 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities across the country, while 6,760 patients are on home based isolation and care.

A total of 101 patients are in ICU, 33 of whom are on ventilatory support, 53 on supplemental oxygen and 15 patients are on observation.

Another 114 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 105 of them in general wards and nine are in High Dependency Unit.

On vaccination, so far, over 1.2 million doses of vaccines have been administered across the country.

Of these first doses are 1,002,499 while the second doses are 285,277.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 28.5 percent with the majority being males at 56 percent while females are at 44 percent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is at 1.09 percent.

Health workers top the list of those who have received a second dose with 68,067, followed by those of ages 58 years and above at 83,526. Those falling in the ‘others’ category are 76,962, teachers are 35,503, and security officers are at 21,219.
