Kenya extends curfew for 30 days to check Covid-19 spread

You will be required to observe the 10pm to 4am curfew order for the next 30 days after the government extended curbs for a month to check the rising spread of Covid-19.

However, the curfew hours for 13 lake region counties that were labelled Covid-19 hotspots earlier have been revised to sync with the new order.

“The hours of the ongoing national curfew to continue across the country from 10 pm to 4am across the country. This applies now to the counties in the lake region as well,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said.

In June, the government revised curfew hours for 13 counties in the Western region from 10pm to 7pm, to help curb the spread of the virus which was surging just after the Madaraka celebrations which was held in Kisumu County.

The counties include; Busia, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Kericho, Bomet, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori.

Further, CS Kagwe announced a 30-day ban on all public gatherings, including office meetings calling on employers to turn to virtual meetings instead.

“There is no point in carrying the rallies, then we have more deaths then we go to the funerals and then cause more deaths,” Mr Kagwe said.

The CS said all places of worship should adhere to the one-third directive given earlier and also ensure social distancing is maintained.

He also directed that burials should be conducted with 72 hours to reduce the number of times people meet and burials should be attended by 50 people.

According to Mr Kagwe, one of the ways that advances gained in the pandemic fight were being lost was through crowding at funerals.

“If we do not take care of ourselves, then our hospital systems will be overwhelmed and at that point, there is nothing the doctors will be able to do,” he noted.
