Kenya Coronavirus case count hits 179,000
In the last 24-hour period, Kenya has recorded 283 more Covid-19 cases, after testing a sample size of 3452, pushing the number of positive cases to 179,075. The positivity rate was 8.2 per cent.
According to the Health Ministry data, over 1.9 million tests had been conducted since the pandemic hit the country in March last year.
Of the new patients, the youngest was two years old and the oldest 92.
Nairobi County accounted for the highest number of infections with 88, Kisii 33, Uasin Gishu 26, Kisumu 24, Mombasa 19, Siaya 15, Homa Bay, Busia and Nandi 10 each, Meru seven, and Kilifi and Kakamega counties recorded six each.
Nakuru County recorded five cases, Narok three; Kiambu, Kwale, Machakos, Taita Taveta and Bungoma two each. Murang’a, Nyamira, Nyeri, Bomet, Lamu, Turkana, Vihiga, Elgeyo Marakwet, Isiolo, Kajiado and Kericho counties recorded one case each.

In a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced nine more deaths, which were all late death reports confirmed after the audit of facility records in the two months to June, raising the country’s cummulative death toll to 3,456.
At the same time, Mr Kagwe announced that 73 patients have recovered from the disease, 61 under home-based care and 12 at hospitals countrywide, raising the total recoveries to 122,704.
A total of 106 patients have been admitted countrywide while 5,488 are being treated at home.
As of Sunday June 20, a total of 1,183,376 vaccine doses had been administered across the county, with the first doses being 995,012 and the second doses, 188,364.
Meanwhile, according to Africa CDC, as of June 20, confirmed cases of Covid-19 from 55 African countries reached 5,178,531 while over 31,155,299 vaccinations have been administered across the continent.
Reported deaths in Africa reached 137,081 and 4,602,567 people have recovered. South Africa has the most reported cases with 1,810,164, and 58,590 deaths. Other most-affected countries are Morocco with 526,363, Tunisia, 381,175, Egypt, 276,756, Ethiopia, 275,036, Libya 190,426 and Kenya 178,792.
