All new Form One students are expected to report to school on Monday, August 2, this year.

The directive from the ministry of Education comes after finalization of Form One placement for all the 1,171,625 candidates who sat their 2020 KCPE.

Faith Mumo Kawee, the girl who emerged top in the national examinations with 433 marks will join Kenya High School while Samuel Wanyonyi, the top boy who scored 430 marks out of possible 500 will join Mang’u High School.

“Students who scored 400 and above were placed in the national schools and extra county schools of their choice. Special needs candidates were also placed in regular schools of their preference. We have opened up opportunities for children from slums,” said Education CS Prof George Magoha while releasing the Form One selection results in Nairobi.

A total of 585,942 girls compared to 585,323 boys are expected to join Form One in line with the government’s policy of 100 per cent transition into secondary schools.

“This is after excluding inmates, overage candidates and candidates from refugee camps,” said Prof Magoha.

Learners can text their index numbers to 22263 to establish which secondary schools they have been admitted to.

Further, the hiring of school buses for private events has been banned. Education CS says those seeking services of school buses must get authority from the ministry.

“School buses are to carry children using COVID-19 protocols, action is to be taken against anybody using the buses for any other reason,” he said, adding that “We will not sit and allow people to misuse facilities of our children…We will give authorization from Jogoo house, it does not matter if you are a government official,” he said.
