Kagwe puts hospitals charging for Covid-19 jabs on notice
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has warned all facilities charging for Covid-19 vaccines, saying that selling the doses to Kenyans is a crime.
The CS noted that some health facilities are charging for administering vaccines instead of giving the jab for free hence pushing away those willing to take the jab.
Speaking on Monday during the Covid-19 briefing at Afya House, CS Kagwe has directed Kenya Medical and Dentist Board to deregister all facilities charging for Covid-19 vaccination.
Cautioning against the illegal vaccination centers, Kagwe has advised Kenyans to deliberately refuse to pay for vaccines.
“Let them vaccinate you and refuse to pay. At which point, you should report so that we can deregister the institution,” Kagwe said.
“There are those carrying out health camps with stolen vaccines. This is not going to be tolerated. Because it is our own people we are endangering,” he added.

Kagwe announced that the government has concluded logistics to allow the private sector to supply vaccines, and that Kenyans should only get vaccines from the Ministry of Health designated points.
“The private sector simply wants to support the effort of the government. There will be no sell of vaccines,” he insisted.
As of today, Kenya has received over 3.6 million vaccine doses with over 2.7 million vaccines being administered across the country. Of these, the total first doses are 1,949,340 while the second doses are 802,926.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 41.2 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.95 per cent.
The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 239,461, Others 239,962 Health Workers 133,898, Teachers 122,349 while Security Officers are at 67,256.
