Covid positivity eases to 9.6 per cent as 20 patients succumb
Kenya has recorded a drop in the positivity rate as authorities enforce Covid containment measures more stringently.
In the last 24 -period, 241 people tested positive from a sample size of 2,515, bringing the total positive cases to 151,894. At the moment, Kenya’s positivity rate now stands at 6.9 per cent. The cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,605,847.
Reported new cases have eased to the current seven-day average of 820 from a high of over 1,300 recorded on March 27 when the country turned to more stringent measures to check the transmission of Covid in five counties neighboring the capital.
Unfortunately, twenty deaths have been reported, one having occurred in the last 24 hours, eleven on diverse dates within the last one month, while eight are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits. Cumulative fatalities now stand at 2,501.

Over 1,600 patients are currently admitted to various hospitals across the country.
The Ministry of Health has also announced that 636 patients have since recovered from the disease with 487 from home based and isolation care while 149 are from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries now stand at 102,278.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) is still optimistic that the world can bring the global Covid-19 pandemic under control in the coming months provided it distributes the necessary resources fairly.
“We have the tools to bring this pandemic under control in a matter of months if we apply them consistently and equitably,” said WHO Director
General Tedros Ghebreyesus.

In a news briefing on Monday, April 19, Global climate change activist Greta Thunberg said it was unethical that rich countries were prioritizing their citizens for vaccination ahead of vulnerable groups in developing countries.
The world’s biggest vaccine producer, the Serum Institute of India, is reported to be running out of Covid-19 shots as it still struggles to keep pace with the surge in new infections in the sub-continent.
On Monday, India reported almost 274,000 new infections and 1,619 new deaths.
