Covid-19: Positive cases in Africa cross 7 million
The confirmed cases of Covid-19 from 55 African countries has crossed seven million, latest data from the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) shows.
South Africa is the most affected country with 2,554,240 cases.
Other most-affected countries include Morocco with 720,256, Tunisia 618,124, Ethiopia 286,286, Egypt 284,966, Libya 274,453 and Kenya at 217,276.
According to Africa CDC, the death toll from the pandemic stands at 179,986 while over 6.2 million patients across the continent have recovered from the virus.
Meanwhile, over 52 million vaccinations have been administered across the continent.
In Kenya, Covid-19 positive caseload stands at 217,276 after 1,546 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate is now 15.9 per cent up from the previous 14.7 per cent.
Statistics from the health ministry indicate the cumulative fatalities now stand at 4,273 after 32 more patients succumbed to the virus, one of them having occurred in the last 24 hours, while 31 being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits since April.
A total of 559 patients have recovered from the virus, pushing the total number of recoveries to 199,998.
Further, nearly 2000 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 9,043 are under the home-based isolation and care program.
On vaccination, as of August 11, a total of 1,922,085 vaccines have so far been administered across the country.
Of these, total first doses are 1,192,418 while second doses are 729,667.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 61.2 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent.
The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.7 per cent.
