Civil servants ordered to get Covid-19 shot by August 23
All civil servants have two weeks to get Covid-19 shot, failure to which they will face disciplinary actions.
Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua has directed principal secretaries and other accounting officers to ensure full implementation of the order, adding that all civil servants will be prioritized in the ongoing vaccination exercise.
“It has, therefore, been decided that all civil servants will be prioritized in the ongoing vaccination exercise and that those who will not have been given the 1st jab by August 23, 2021, be treated as discipline cases and appropriate action taken against them,” read part of his statement.
In a memo dated August 5, Mr Kinyua said it had been discovered there was a low uptake of the vaccines among public servants especially in the security sector, teachers and the core civil service against a background of access to vaccines.
“Some public servants have deliberately avoided getting vaccinated so that they can stay away from work under the guise of working from home, hence affecting service delivery to the public. This has negatively affected service delivery to the public,” he said.

As of August 8, a total of 1,804,375 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, the total first doses are 1,105,470 while the second doses are 698,905.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 63.2 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.6 per cent.
The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 214,722, Others 205,802, Health Workers 120,155, and Teachers 102,007 while Security Officers are at 56,219.
