KRA appoints new commissioners as crackdown on tax cheats intensifies

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced the appointment of three new executives in a move meant to smoke out tax cheats at the same spearhead tax compliance functions.

Following a competitive selection process by the KRA Board; Dr. Terra Saidimu Leseeto and Dr. David Wachira Kinuu will serve as the Commissioner of Intelligence & Strategic Operations and Commissioner Corporate Support Services, respectively.

KRA boss Mr. Githii Mburu says that the new appointees are expected to propel the Taxman to the next level as a trailblazer in public service delivery and as an institution firmly focused on delivering on its mandate and mission.

“At KRA, we are focused on building trust through facilitation so as to foster compliance with the existing tax and customs legislation and we have moved to align our Human Capital with the ideals actively.” Mr. Mburu added.

The new appointees are part of the 1000 intelligence and enforcement officers that KRA said it will hire to identify and arrest wealthy tax cheats who are responsible for the revenue shortfalls that KRA has posted year on year.

Dr. Terra Saidimu who holds a Ph.D. in Risk Management from The University of Southampton has served in various Investigative & Enforcement roles since he joined the Authority in 2005, While Dr. Wachira Kinuu has served in various HR and Management roles within the private sector, With Safaricom PLC being the most recent.

The new wave of appointments by KRA comes after Parliament’s Budget and Appropriations Committee approved a Ksh 2 Billion boost to Authority to enable it hire more employees.

Alongside the two Commissioners, Mr. Phares Kamau Chege, a former Group Head of Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance at Signon Group has also been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner, Internal Audit – as part of the appointments which take immediate effect.
