Seven feared dead as Kenyan soldliers on patrol attacked at Dhobley

Kenyas war against terror in Somalia continues to attract casualties at home and abroad.

Over the weekend, an unknown number of Kenyan soldiers were killed in an ambush after a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) targeting a military vehicle near the Somali town of Dhobley near the border with Kenya went off. The land cruiser vehicle was extensively destroyed.

Unofficial reports indicate that least seven Kenyan soldiers were killed and two others seriously injured in the Sunday attack.

Kenyan forces came under attack on May 6, at around 1440hrs. They were traveling from Daadab to Dhobley when they encountered the IED attack reinforced with an ambush at Sheftuk, which is between Dagalema and Dhobley, and is approximately 6kilomteres South of Dhobley.

Witnesses say the vehicle was in a convoy on patrol when it was hit by the IED, causing a massive explosion. A Somali officer said the IED tore apart the vehicle, killing the soldiers instantly.
