Market turnover surges to Sh1.9billion during Tuesday trading

Equities
Equities were boosted by the sale of Safaricom shares during Tuesday trading. The turnover surged Sh1.9billion from the previous session’s Sh744 million. The number of shares traded stood at 68million against 30.8million posted on Monday.

Indices
The NSE 20 share Index was up 4.19 points to stand at 3759.95. All Share Index (NASI) shed 0.53 points to settle at 181.38. The NSE 25 Share index dropped 6.90 points to stand at 4543.65.

Banking
The Banking Sector had shares worth Sh617 million transacted which accounted for 30.27 per cent of the day’s traded value.

Equity Group Holdings stirred up activity in this sector with 7.7 million shares valued at Sh338million changing hands at between Sh43.25 andSh44. KCB Group unchanged at Sh46.25 moved 3.3million shares valued at Sh153million. Co-op Bank up five cents to Sh17 moved 5.4 million shares worth Sh92.7 million.

Energy & Petroleum
The Energy Sector had shares worth Sh92million traded and accounted for 4.52 per cent of the day’s turnover. KenolKobil had 6million shares valued at Sh89.5million transacted at between Sh14.75 and Sh15.

Insurance
The Insurance sector had shares worth Sh7.7million transacted. Jubilee Holdings traded 11,000 shares valued at Sh5.9million at between Sh500 and Sh505.

Manufacturing & Allied
The Manufacturing & Allied Sector had shares worth Sh20.5million transacted which represented 1.01 per cent of the day’s traded value. East African Breweries saw 77,000 shares valued at Sh19million changing hands at between Sh247 and Sh250.

Telecommunication
Safaricom was the day’s main feature with 42 million shares valued at Sh1.2billion changing hands at between Sh28.75 and Sh30, this represented 61.39 per cent of the day’s traded value.
Real Estate Investment Trust Stanlib Fahari I-Reit moved 4.1million units valued at Sh41million at between Sh10 and Sh11.20.

Bonds
The Bond Market recorded improved activity with bonds worth Sh5.4billion transacted compared to Sh1.5billion posted the previous session.
