Safaricom Foundation’s mega boost: Kes170 million into nationwide community programs

Safaricom Foundation is committing a substantial Kes170 million to support community initiatives that will positively impact over 1.6 million Kenyans across the country. The funding will be channeled into various programs focused on health, education, and economic empowerment as part of the Foundation’s sustainable philanthropy initiatives: Ndoto Zetu, Pamoja, and Usamaria.

Ndoto Zetu program, now in its fifth phase, aims to empower individual Kenyans to bring their community dreams and aspirations to life. Safaricom Foundation has allocated Kes100 million specifically for this initiative, accepting submissions from 12th July 2023 to 11th August 2023.

Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC, expressed the Foundation’s commitment to transforming lives, stating, “The transformation we have seen since the inception of Ndoto Zetu affirms that Kenyans are very passionate about positively impacting their communities. Each dream we help fulfill translates to thousands of lives being uplifted, that is why we are keen to continue partnering with Kenyans to transform lives.”

Another KES 20 million has been allocated for Usamaria, an initiative that supports economically disadvantaged patients by covering their medical bills in public hospitals.

Since 2019, Safaricom Foundation has invested Kes271 million in over 1400 Ndoto Zetu community projects, significantly improving the lives of more than 1.9 million Kenyans in the areas of education, health, and economic empowerment. In the recently concluded phase 4, the Foundation funded 392 projects worth KES 100 million, positively impacting over 700,000 lives.

Successful participants will be contacted by Safaricom Foundation via 0722 000 000 to bring their community dreams to fruition.
