Masit losses the battle to retain IEBC job

Justice Aggrey Muchelule’s tribunal has recommended the removal of suspended Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission commissioner Irene Masit from office. In their final report, Judge Muchelule said the accusations facing the embattled commissioner were proven.

The tribunal has recommended their removal from office other commissioners Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyangaya for violating the Constitution. The three resigned in a huff leaving Ms Masit to face the tribunal.

President William Ruto set up the tribunal which was led by High Court Judge Aggrey Muchelule following last-minute disagreements witnessed at the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission before the announcement of presidential results on August 15, 2022.

Then IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati was left with commissioners Boya Mulu and Prof Abdi Guliye to announce the presidential election that showed Dr William Ruto trouncing his main challenger Raila Odinga.

A total of six witnesses including Mr Chebukati, Mr Molu and Prof Guliye appeared before the tribunal to testify against Ms Masit over her stance on alteration of last year’s presidential election results.
