Kenya’s Covid-19 positivity rate ticks up to 9 per cent
The country has in the last 24 hours recorded 185 new cases of coronavirus from a sample size of 2,047 tested.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement that the positivity rate was at nine per cent, adding that from the cases, the youngest was a five-year-old child while the oldest 91 years.
The total confirmed positive cases are now 186,053 and cumulative tests so far conducted are over 1.9 million.
Mr Kagwe said 1,186 patients recovered from the virus, 1,102 are from the home based and isolation care program while 84 from various health facilities countrywide.
Total recoveries now stand at 128,811 out of which 93,391 are from the home based care and isolation programme, while 35,420 are from various health facilities.
At the same time, 15 patients succumbed to the virus, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in the month of June 2021.

The cumulative fatalities now stand at 3,690.
A total of 1,151 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 5,426 patients are under the home based isolation and care program.
The CS added that 119 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 33 of whom are on ventilator support and 47 on supplemental oxygen.
Another 182 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 161 of them in general wards and 21 in High Dependency Units.
Nairobi County recorded the highest number of cases with 94 cases, followed by Bungoma 25, Mombasa 16, Machakos 11, Kakamega 7, Tana River 5, Kilifi 5, Kiambu 4, Homa Bay 3, Kajiado 3, Nakuru 3, Murang’a 2, Kericho 2, Kisii, Kwale, Makueni, Meru and Tharaka Nithi recorded a case each.
On vaccination, Mr Kagwe noted that over 1.4 million doses of vaccines have been administered across the country, of which 1,018,143 are first doses while second doses are 459,773.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 45.2 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent.
The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is at 1.77 per cent.
