Kenya Covid-19 positivity rate at 6.3 per cent
Kenya reported 234 new Covid-19 infections on Sunday from a sample size of 3,737 people, reflecting a positivity rate of 6.3 per cent and pushing the country’s caseload to 246,530.
Nairobi has the highest number of infections at 49, while Baringo, Kisii, Nandi, Kisumu, Kericho, Kwale, Embu, Homa Bay, and Isiolo counties recorded the least number of infections with a case each.
According to Health Ministry data, a total of 1,433 patients are currently admitted to various hospitals across the country with 3,246 under the home-based isolation and care program.
“109 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit, 77 of whom are on ventilatory support and 25 on supplemental oxygen. Seven patients are under observation.”
Another 505 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 470 of them in general wards and 35 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

At the same time, total recovers from the virus have reached 237,295 after 492 new patients recovered.
In addition, nine new fatalities were reported, bringing the total number of fatalities from the virus to 4,989.
“All of the deaths are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in September 2021,” the Health Ministry said.
Meanwhile, the country has so far received roughly 6.3 million vaccine doses since the arrival of the first AstraZeneca batch in March this year.
Kenya plans to vaccinate at least 10 million adults by December and has already administered a total of 3.35 million doses across the country.
According to data by the Ministry of Health, “Of these, total first doses were 2.49 while second doses were 858,936. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 34.5 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females were at 45 per cent.”
The proportion of adults who are now fully vaccinated is 3.2 per cent.
