Safaricom and Britam unveil Sh25 daily plan for Bodabodas

For Kes25 per day, Boda Boda operators and other low-income earners in Kenya can cover medical bills arising out of personal accidents.

The move follows a deal between Safaricom and Britam to introduce Kes25 per day data plan dubbed Data Plus, which offers a daily personal accident cover. The product has a graduated plan capped at Kes150 per day.

Data Plus will see Safaricom customers secure personal accident covers for medical expenses, permanent disability, and funeral expenses arising from an accident.

For Kes25 daily, a customer will get 100MB bundle with a daily insurance benefit of Kes15,000 for medical expenses. The deal also offers Kes50,000 insurance for accidental permanent total disability and Kes50,000 to cater for funeral expenses in case of fatal accidents.

Evah Kimani, Britam’s Director of Partnerships and Digital, said, “Through this partnership, we aim to reach out to millions of Kenyans who do not have access to insurance protection against various risks that can affect their livelihoods and well-being.”

“Safaricom remains keen on bridging the digital divide, and we do this by availing affordable data bundles and 4G devices,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom PLC.

At a rate of Kes110 per day, subscribers can enjoy a 1GB data package, accompanied by daily insurance coverage that includes Kes30,000 for medical costs, Kes100,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and Kes100,000 for funeral expenses in the event of accidental death.

For those with higher data requirements, there is an option to access the 1.8GB data bundle, priced at Kes150 per day.

This package also incorporates insurance coverage featuring Kes30,000 for medical expenses, Kes100,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and Kes100,000 for funeral expenses in case of accidental death.
