The Showmax series that’s got tongues wagging

Launching on video-on-demand service Showmax this Valentine’s Day, 14 February, is Sex in Afrikaans show—an eye-opening glimpse of what your friends, neighbors, and colleagues at work get up to behind closed doors.

The show follows South African clinical psychologist Bradley Randal Daniels as he lends a helping hand to Afrikaans couples and two singles in a no-holds-barred talk about their private lives for the first time.

“Afrikaans people and the adult industry, they go hand in hand… In South Africa, there are over 40,000 registered swingers.”

These are just some of the revelations you hear in the first-look trailer for Sex in Afrikaans — made by owners of Adult World, Lollipop Lingerie, and a swingers club.

In Kenya, you can binge on the jaw-dropping episodes of this new show and dozens more on Showmax at a bargain via your mobile devices while on the go.

Showmax and Safaricom have partnered to offer customers two months of video streaming for the price of one while making it easier for Kenyans to pay for and watch their favorite collection of shows on mobile devices.

The telco giant will be offering customers data deals bundled with a 60-day Showmax subscription instead of the usual 30-day subscription.

“We’re always looking at ways to make it easier for fans to watch Showmax,” says Nathan Hanley, Chief Expansion Officer – MultiChoice Connected Video.

“Our partnership with Safaricom gives our customers the convenience of a single payment for both entertainment and data to make streaming quick and easy while giving them an extra 30 days of watching,” he added.

To subscribe, customers dial *544*20# from their handsets, select Showmax before choosing one of these two mobile bundles: Showmax Mobile (60 days) plus 1GB Safaricom data for Kes389 or Showmax Pro Mobile (60 days) in addition to 3GB Safaricom data for Kes1,299.

Sex in Afrikaans will be featuring interviews with sex workers, adult shop owners, swingers, dominatrixes, a crossdresser, a dungeon master, people who dress up like babies, and others who prefer full-body latex suits.

This bundled deal with Safaricom makes it easier for Kenyan streaming fans to pay for Showmax’s collection of shows and data via M-PESA in one go.

Showmax airs popular Kenyan content across Africa, such as the latest seasons of Kina, Njoro Wa Uba and Selina, and famous drama sets in the country’s ever-dynamic music industry produced by Enos Olik as well as popular local reality shows This Love and Sol Family

Commenting on the partnership, CEO, Safaricom Peter Ndegwa said: “As a digital-first company, we want to avail affordable devices and data bundles and leverage our extensive 4G coverage to enable Kenyans to access a new world of content from the comfort of their phones. Through this partnership, our customers can now enjoy their favourite shows on Showmax using bundles that provide value and convenience.”

Established in 2015, Showmax offers video on demand using apps for smart TVs, smartphones, tablets, computers, media players, and gaming consoles.

With Showmax, you can manage your data consumption using the bandwidth capping feature and download shows to smartphones and tablets to watch later offline.

Showmax also features international shows such as the best of HBO, like Succession and Insecure as well as a rich menu of sports entertainment.

At the moment, you can follow English Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga matches, plus a wide range of live sport from SuperSport, including the ongoing Winter Olympics in China, pro boxing, international marathons, and IAAF athletics.

Globally the size of the content streaming market is expected to hit $123.16 billion this year from $104.41 billion in 2021 according to Content Streaming Global Market Report 2022 published by The Business Research Company.

The jump is attributable to the companies stabilizing their output after catering to the demand that grew exponentially during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The increasing number of mobile devices, internet access, and content providers is seeing consumers access music and video content and is thereby set to push the growth of the content streaming market to $227.32 billion in 2026.
