AT&T executive joins Safaricom as Chief Enterprise Business Officer
Cynthia Karuri-Kropac has been tapped by telco giant Safaricom to join the company as Chief Enterprise Business Officer starting September 1st.
Prior to her appointment, Cynthia was the senior director, enterprise mobile and IoT Technologies, at American multinational AT&T since 2019.
Cynthia will be taking over from Joseph Wanjohi, who has been serving in an acting capacity since May, when the post became vacant following the exit of Kris Senanu barely a year after joining Eastern Africa’s most profitable company.
Cynthia’s career at the Texas-headquartered AT&T Inc spanned 19 years, having joined BellSouth in 2003 as a senior IT client account management lead before taking on the role of director, mobile service delivery and operations, for Cingular Wireless in 2008.
In 2010, Cynthia was appointed AT&T global lead and director, enterprise solutions and sales support, a role she held until 2019 when she took up her latest role as senior director, enterprise mobile and IoT technologies.

As of 2022, AT&T was ranked 13th on the Fortune 500 rankings of the largest corporations in the US with revenues of US$168.8 billion.
It is the world’s largest telecommunications company by revenue and the third largest provider of mobile telephone services in the US.
Prior to joining AT&T, Cynthia worked for Accenture/Andersen Consulting as a Senior Manager for seven years.
With over 20 years’ experience in the telecommunications sector, Cynthia has a wealth of knowledge in various crafts, including business strategy, industrial IoT, enterprise technology solutions, executive advisory and decision support, operational excellence and process reengineering, Safaricom said in a note to newsrooms.
She holds a Bachelor of Finance from the University of Toledo, Ohio, and an MBA in Finance and International Business from Kent State University, Ohio.
