Kenya’s Coffee, tea export volumes drop in June
Kenya earned Kes2.27 billion from coffee exports in June compared to Kes3,01 billion recorded in May owing to a drop in the volumes exported.
Data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics shows that Kenya’s quantity of coffee exported decreased to 3,436.88 metric tonnes (MT) in June from 4,430.33 MT in the previous month.
Tea export volumes, a key foreign exchange earner for the country, also decreased to 43,993.25 MT in June from 50,041.59 MT shipped out the country in May.
The subdued volumes traded saw the value of exported green leaf drop to Kes9.5 billion in June from Kes11 billion over the same period.
Overall, KNBS leading economic indicators report shows that Kenya’s volume of trade dropped to Kes216.90 billion in June from Kes225.34 billion in May, this year.

The value of total exports reduced to Kes56.74 billion in June from Kes63.14 billion the previous month, while the value of imports decreased to Kes160.16 billion from Kes162.20 billion in May.
The quantity of cut-flower exports in June 2021 was 12,786.28 MT earning the businesses Kes5.5 million.
The quantity of vegetable exports increased to 8,942.62 MT in June from 6,694.81 MT in May but the value remained flat at Kes2.4 million.
In the month under review, non-food industrial supplies were the main import category with a share of 38.99 per cent.
Fuel and lubricants; machinery and other capital equipment as well as transport equipment accounted for 16.12, 14.26 and 10.13 per cent of the total value of imports.
Foods and beverages accounted for 10.43 per cent of the total imports in Kenya in June.
