Current Covid-19 curfew in Kenya to end on May 29
The ongoing curfew restrictions in the disease infected zone and the rest of Kenya will run until May 29, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has said.
The disease infected zone announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 26 includes Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos and Nakuru counties.
“This order shall apply during the hours of darkness between eight o’clock in the evening and four o’clock in the morning with effect from the 29th March 2021 and shall remain in effect for a period of sixty days thereof,” he said.
The CS further added that there will be no public gatherings or movement either alone or as a group in and out of the said zone during the extended period as a measure to curb Covid-19 spread.
While announcing the revised Covid-19 restrictions at the end of March, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the curbs would run “until further notice”.

“There shall be a cessation of movement by road, rail or air into and out of the disease infected area as one zoned area comprising of the counties of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru, effective midnight tonight-meaning Saturday 27th March 2021, until otherwise notified,” the President ordered.
The new gazette notice from the Ministry of Interior has also revised the list of essential service providers from 22 to 26 to include advocates of the High Court, children protection service providers, cargo transporters and operators of safe shelters and safe spaces for sexual and gender-based violence survivors.
Meanwhile the latest data from the Ministry of Health shows that Kenya’s Covid-19 positivity rate now stands at 13 per cent after 981 people testes positive in the last 24-hour period. This is after testing a sample size of 7,529. The total of confirmed positive cases now stands at 148,128.
The death toll continues to rise after 26 deaths reported in the last 24 hours with 23 having occurred on diverse dates in the last one month. The cumulative fatalities now at 2,420.
At the same time, 665 patients have recovered, 528 from home based care and 137 from various health facilities, pushing the total recoveries to 100,245.
A total of 1,623 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide.
