Turnover jumps 38 percent on Tuesdays trading at the NSE
The market turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) surged 38 percent on Tuesdays trading to close the day at Sh286million, up from the Sh207million traded on Monday.
Here is a market wrap for Tuesday’s session.
Derivatives: The Derivatives Market registered activity in Safaricom & Equity contacts trading at 27.90 and 40.28 respectively and maturing in September 19th, 2019.
The contracts were valued at Sh68,000. This is against a closing price of Sh27.70 & Sh.40.00 registered by the two securities respectively in the spot market.

Equities: Market turnover rose to Sh.286M from the previous session’s Sh207M, the number of shares traded stood at 9.8M against 12.9M posted yesterday.
Indices: The NSE 20 share Index was down 13.49 points to stand at 2670.13. All Share Index NASI inched up 0.19 points to stand at 149.14. The NSE 25 Share index lost 9.56 points to settle at 3599.18.
Banking: The Banking Sector had shares worth Sh129.5M transacted which accounted for 48.53% of the day’s traded value. Equity Group Holdings moved 2M shares valued at Sh82.8M at between Sh39.00 and Sh40.50.
KCB Group down five cents to Sh39.40 moved 707,000 shares worth Sh27.8M. Co-operative Bank moved 944,000 shares valued at Sh11.4M and closed at Sh12.05.
Insurance: The Insurance sector had shares worth 2M traded & accounted for 0.76% of the day’s traded value. Jubilee Holdings moved 3,000 shares valued at Sh1.3M at a fairly stable price of Sh380.00.
Investment: The Investment sector had shares worth 36.8M traded & accounted for 13.79% of the day’s traded value. Centum closed the day 1.66% lower to Sh32.50 moving 1.1M shares valued at Sh36.7M.
Manufacturing & Allied: The manufacturing and Allied sector had shares worth 2.1M traded & accounted for 0.81% of the day’s traded value. E.A Breweries exchanged 9,000 shares valued at Sh1.8M at between Sh197.00 and Sh200.00.
Telecommunication: Safaricom had 3.4M shares valued at Sh94M transacted at between Sh27.30 and Sh28.00; this represented 35.33% of the day’s traded value.
