Safaricom’s Baze Music is live—here’s how to get it now

Are you looking for a trendy way to stream your favorite music and playlists?

Tech giant Safaricom has unveiled Baze Music, a platform where customers will enjoy a mobile-first and ad-free, streaming experience.

From as little as Kes10 per day, you’ll get unified access to your favorite local and international tracks.

The platform, which will see Kenyan artists get a new avenue for monetizing their works, will feature over 45,000 local songs and 1.1 million international tracks.

Among the key artists whose content is on Baze Music include two-time Afrima Award Winner Nikita Kering, gospel artists Daddy Owen and Guardian Angel, Trio Mio, Jua Cali, Bahati, Mejja, Nviiri The Storyteller, Femi One, and Ohangla crooner Prince Indah among others.

Baze Music, which is an expansion of the video-on-demand service BAZE, is accessible via *544*55# or www.bazemusic.co.ke where one can buy into any of the three subscription plans.

These include an all-day pass with 50MB at Kes10, a weekly pass with 300MB at Kes50, or a monthly pass with 1.5GB at Kes200.

New customers will also enjoy a seven-day free trial with 500MB daily.

Baze Music will be featuring a vast collection of local music genres including gospel, gengetone, urban local, reggae, and bongo flava among others.

“Our goal is to provide Kenyans freedom, choice, and control over the content they consume, and I am delighted that our customers have enjoyed a variety of content on Baze since the platform was launched in May 2021. To further enhance their experience, we are introducing Baze Music, which will also provide Kenyan artists with a new avenue for monetizing their music in addition to the Skiza platform,” said Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom CEO.

Baze Music subscribers will also be able to set any of the tracks that they love as their Skiza tunes directly from the portal.

Mr Ndegwa added: “with such a unique digital platform, I call upon our artists to be part of this journey and utilize this opportunity to earn while showcasing and growing their musical talents.”

In May, Safaricom unveiled BAZE, a mobile-first video-on-demand service that offers a wide selection of local and regional short-form videos in comedy, drama, lifestyle, and music among others.

The service is similar to Citizen’s Viusasa giving customers the convenience of accessing vast collection of videos, including first-run exclusives on their smartphones.

“Our goal is to delight our customers by availing a carefully curated collection of video content across their favorite genres. BAZE will place the entertainment Kenyans want at their fingertips, giving users freedom, choice, and control over the content they consume,” said Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Customer Officer – Safaricom.

Baze Music underscores Safaricom’s commitment to growing and developing Kenya’s creative and music industry.

In August, the service provider increased the Skiza revenue share by 33 percent, enabling more than 20,000 artists and content creators to benefit from increased earnings from all their tunes on the platform.
