Nairobi leads in vaccine uptake at 31.7 per cent

Nairobi County is still at the top of the COVID-19 vaccination table, leading with 14.2 per cent of its population fully vaccinated while 31.7 per cent of the population having received the first jab.

Kiambu comes second, followed by Nakuru and Nyeri counties with a high population having received the first jab respectively, while Nyeri and Kiambu come second and third respectively, having fully vaccinated their populations.

Marsabit County is the least with 1.4 per cent of its population receiving the first jab.

According to the latest data by the Ministry of Health, Lamu, Turkana, Mandera, Wajir Garissa, Tana River, and Marsabit are the least with less than 1 per cent of their population fully vaccinated.

As of Sunday, October 17, a total of 4.5 million vaccines had been administered across the country.

Of these, nearly 3.3 million were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were just over 1.2 million.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 35.2 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 4.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, the country’s positivity rate is down to 1.9 per cent after 74 people tested positive from a sample size of 3,987 tested in the last 24 hours.

At the same time, the ministry announced 8 patients succumbed to the virus, one of them having occurred in the last 24 hours, while the other 7 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in October, pushing the cumulative death toll to 5,223.

However, 76 patients recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 245,254.

“A total of 590 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,556 are under the home-based isolation and care program,” read the statement by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
