Embu OCS arrested over Sh100,000 bribe

Detectives attached to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Mary Syombua Mutunga, the Officer
Commanding Station (OCS) at Itabua Police Station, in Embu County, on charges of extortion.

According to EACC, Mary Mutunga demanded Kes100,000 from a man and his wife in exchange for the release of their vehicle, which had been impounded and detained at the station without apparent justification.

Her arrest came in the wake of a complaint from the couple, who reached out to the EACC after the OCS demanded the bribe, threatening to incarcerate them if they did not comply.

Early this year, a survey by the EACC exposed the Ministry of Interior as the most corrupt unit in Kenya closely followed by Health, and Transport.
