COVID-19: Kenya reports a positivity rate of 25.4 percent
Kenya on Sunday recorded 1,354 new cases of Covid-19 infections, bringing the country’s caseload to 298,509.
Health Cabinet Secretary confirmed that this was from a sample size of 5,331 recording a positivity rate of 25.4 percent. The cumulative tests so far stand at 3,042,313.
At the same time, the country’s fatalities have risen to 5,384 after another three patients succumbed to the virus.
Meanwhile, the CS noted that a total of 1,029 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 23,667 are under the home-based care and isolation program.
“Some 53 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 21 of them on ventilatory support while 26 are on supplemental oxygen. Six patients are under observation.”
Another 271 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 248 of them are in the general wards. 23 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Meanwhile, 400 patients have recovered from the virus, 216 from the home-based Isolation and care program while 184 are from various health facilities countrywide.
Total recoveries now stand at 254,115 of whom 204,806 are from the home-based care and isolation program, while 49,309 are from various health facilities countrywide.
On the ongoing vaccination program, as of January 1, a total of 10,121,263 vaccines have so far been administered across the country. Of these, 5,871,177 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 4,215,806.
Data by the Ministry of Health also shows that another 21,065 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 13,215 are booster doses.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at55.8 percent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 15.5 percent.
