Fact-Check

HOAX: This post announcing KDF recruitment exercise in August 2024 is fraudulent

The Ministry of Defence has flagged the claim.

This Facebook post claiming that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is set to conduct a recruitment exercise from 26 August to 9th September 2024 is a HOAX.

KDF is a security unit domiciled under the Ministry of Defence established under the Kenya Defence Forces Act, 2012, providing for the functions, organization, administration, and discipline of its three main service units: Kenya Army, the Kenya Air Force, and the Kenya Navy.

“The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment is starting on 26th August, 2024. Have you been trying but no success (sic) Interested candidates whatsapp me for more information.

0734697473.” the post reads in part.

Maudhui House analysed the Ministry of Defence website, and the KDF X (formerly Twitter) official account and Facebook page, which are key portals where any planned nationwide recruitment of personnel would be posted, but there was no information on the alleged recruitment.

In an update on Facebook and X, a statement signed by the Assistant Director Public Communications at the Ministry of Defence,  Ms Grace Mwanja, disowned the purported exercise, stating in part, “KDF has not advertised for any recruitment process, nor is it conducting any recruitment exercise at this time.”

Maudhui House has examined a Facebook post purporting that the KDF is set to carry out recruitment between 26th August and 9th September 2024 and found it to be a HOAX.
