FALSE: This video isn’t of Moses Kuria facing rowdy Gen Z protesters in Nyeri County in July 2024
The video was captured on 1st February 2020 when Moses Kuria was whisked from a public rally in Kitui County.
This post on Facebook claiming to show the former cabinet secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management Moses Kuria being rescued by police and security agents from an irate mob in Nyeri County in July 2024 is ALTERED.
“Gen Z almost lynched CS Moses Kuria at Nyeri during Maina Wanjigi’s Funeral,” reads the post.
Maudhui House examined the video on the said encounter between Gen Z protesters and Moses Kuria in Nyeri County and determined that it is ALTERED.
A Google search for the keywords “Moses Kuria attack Gen Z” led to a debunk by PesaCheck. According to PesaCheck, the video was originally published on 1st February 2020 by Citizen TV on YouTube following an incident involving Moses Kuria at a rally in Kitui County.
The video captures the moment Kuria, then Gatundu South MP, was whisked away by the police and event organizers from a pro-Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rally in Kitui County.
In the Citizen TV clip, the event master of ceremony is heard urging members of the public present to remain calm as Kuria is seen hurriedly being led out of the venue.
On 1 February 2020, Nation Africa reported that Kuria was shoved by residents at the BBI rally in Kitui.
The Star also detailed the moment Kuria was ejected from the Kitui BBI rally, stating, “Kuria was seen being forcefully ejected from the main dais amid jeers from the crowd.
On both posts by Citizen TV the The Star, members of the public were not recorded chanting “Ruto Must Go” unlike in the July 6, 2024, post purportedly captured in Nyeri.
Another Google search using keywords “Moses Kuria+Nyeri+Maina Wanjigi+“Ruto Must Go” established the video where Kuria was forced to cut short his speech in Nyeri County during the funeral of Maina Wanjigi amid chants of “Ruto Must Go” was published as a 2.5 minute clip by NTV Kenya on Facebook on July 5, 2024.
