FALSE: NMG has not sent staff home over MPox outbreak 

Nation Media Group has dismissed the claim

A post on X (formerly Twitter), with a digital card claiming that the Nation Media Group (NMG), a media organization with operations in print, broadcast and digital media, has sent home its employees due to the MPox outbreak in the company’s head office in Nairobi is FALSE.

The post’s caption reads, “ Mpox is spreading like a bushfire MPOXAt NMG.”

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Mpox is an illness caused by the monkeypox virus. It is usually spread “mainly through close contact, and occasionally from the environment to people via things and surfaces that have been touched by a person with Mpox.” 

Statistics from Kenya’s Ministry of Health show that the country had reported four cases of Mpox as of August 31, 2024.

A timeline check on NMGs official X (formerly Twitter) account shows that the media house has dismissed the claim, stating, “FAKE NEWS ALERT. Please be advised that this card doing rounds on social media is fake.”

Additionally, the Ministry of Health has flagged the said post and cautioned the public against spreading misinformation about the MPox outbreak. 

“Stop spreading misinformation about Mpox! Always rely on accurate information from trusted sources such as @MOH_Kenya. Let’s work together to keep our communities informed and safe,” reads the post in part.
