Ruto dismisses varsity privatisation, fees hike

President William Ruto has assuaged Kenyans’ fears about his administration’s plan to implement radical measures to improve the financial position of public universities, dismissing earlier reports pointing to privatization and massive increase of fees. Sh15 billion livestock uptake, insurance plan on to stem losses

Governors from 21 of Kenya’s drought-stricken counties are in talks with the ministry of agriculture and other stakeholders on implementing a World Bank-funded project aimed at mitigating livestock losses through insurance. The State Department of Livestock is spearheading the initiative – Drive (Derisking Inclusion and Value Enhancement of Pastoral Economies) – in partnership with ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company) and the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC). ZEP-RE will be managing a $75 million (Kes9.5 billion) fund to deliver a package combining livestock insurance and a savings bonus that pastoralists will receive through digital accounts. American financial titan JPMorgan Chase is set to open a regional office in Kenya a decade after the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) issued the organization with an approval in principle. Kakuzi enters export deal to double China avocado market

Superfoods exporter Kakuzi’s foray into China continues to pay dividends after securing a partnership with a Chinese horticultural produce importer Dalian Yidu Group. I live in one of Nairobi city outskirts around Ruiru, proximal to a small river where the residents undertake farming on the riparian land. Napier grass, a highly preferred fodder by dairy farmers, is the most favored crop, especially on farmland bordering the Thika Superhighway perhaps due to its virtual insusceptibility to theft. Farmers have 30 days to pick up fertilizer under e-voucher system

The ministry of agriculture is giving farmers up to 30 days to redeem their fertilizer vouchers up from an earlier requirement of seven days as authorities give room to growers to access the input as planting season nears. On Friday last week, thousands of farmers who duly signed up for the subsidized fertilizer program with local government officials and agricultural officers received text messages prompting them to turn up at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depots to redeem their rations.
