FALSE: Hanifa Farsafi has not been summoned by the EACC

EACC has dismissed the alleged summons.

This post on X (formerly Twitter) purporting that the Ethic and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Hanifa Farsafi “to explain an unidentified sum collected through M-changa”, an online fundraising platform is FALSE.

The letter claims that EACC asked Hanifa to furnish it with documents and information with respect to the fundraising activities she led as well as how she managed the collected funds. 

A Google search under keywords “hanifa farsafi+m-changa+collections for protest victims” shows several media outlets including Citizen Digital, The Star, reported that Kenyans raised over Ksh29 million through Hanifa, who acted as the coordinator, via M-Changa platform in late June to pay for hospital bills, and meeting funeral expenses for victims of anti-government protests in Kenya.

A timeline check on EACC’s X account shows that the commission has countered this claim, announcing to the public that “This letter is fake and not from EACC.” 

Additionally, Hanifa also dismissed the said summonses on her X account.

Further, digital news platform, The Eastleigh Voice, which is Hanifa’s employer, denied the alleged summons, stating on X “This letter is fake and is not from EACC,” the commission [EACC] confirmed on Tuesday.
