The M-Pesa Foundation is set to hold a two-week integrated fistula camp at the Migori County Referral Hospital from Friday, 26th September to Friday, 10th October 2025.

The exercise, targeting women and girls in Migori County and its neighboring areas, is set to benefit more than 120 women through surgeries and treatment. The camp will be being carried out in partnership with the Flying Doctors Society of Kenya, AMREF and the county government.

Fistula cases in the catchment area are mainly caused cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages where young girls are affected by the condition due to prolonged labour.

“Let us encourage as many women as possible to turn up and also look to community groups to mobilize those in neighboring counties to seek treatment. Fistula is indeed treatable. We have seen thousands of women get a new lease of life after years of pain and isolation," said Nicholas Ng’ang’a, Chairman, M-Pesa Foundation.

The camp, which is in celebration of M-Pesa Foundation’s 15 years of impact, will see women get screened, receive treatment, and undergo surgery to remedy the condition.

This year, over 300 women have benefited from similar camps across the country in Kisii, Nyeri, and Busia counties.

Since its inception in 2021, Safaricom Foundation-run fistula camps have positively impacted over 1,000 women across the country, among them Kisii, Bungoma, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Kajiado, Kilifi, Garissa, Makueni, Homa Bay, Kiambu, and Nairobi counties.
