Kenyans among budding filmmakers set for world-class training by Netflix
Over 20 Kenyans are set to benefit from Netflix-funded scholarship that will see a total of 46 aspiring filmmakers from five East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan improve their skills.
The scholarship fund is part of Netflix Creative Equity Scholarship Fund (CESF) launched in 2021 with the goal of developing a pipeline of creatives around the world.
The initiative provides financial support to African creatives that enables them access quality tertiary education in film and TV-focused disciplines, the American subscription streaming service and production company said.
The beneficiaries, who have enrolled for certificate, diploma and degree courses will receive a full scholarship which includes; tuition, accommodation, living stipend and education supplies.
The program is being administered by HEVA Fund, in partnership with five institutions of higher learning in Kenya including; Africa Digital Media Institute (ADMI); Kenya Film School (KFS); KCA University; Kenyatta University and United States International University Africa (USIU), that will support the formal qualification and training of aspiring creatives from the region.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of ICT and Netflix signed a Kes113 million memorandum of understanding to support Kenyan creatives through various initiatives over a period of five years.
